Today, the owner of “Benny Blanco Tortillas” is sharing the beloved Mexican culinary staple, the tortilla, throughout the Valley. Homemade tortillas are a hit at Benny Blanco Tortillas in Apache Junction.
Driven by a taste of nostalgia and a strong belief in supporting local businesses, a Tucson native decided to buy a tortilla company and bring authentic flavors from Hermosillo, Sonora, to Arizona. Christopher Hudson, an Arizona native, is the BBG (Big Bald Guy) behind Tortilla Table.
Christopher Hudson began his culinary journey at 15, serving tables, and by 19, he was managing a local restaurant. From cooking and serving to washing dishes and managing, he did it all. After stepping away from the restaurant world for a few years, Hudson missed sharing his love for great food with others but didn’t miss the demanding schedule.
Instead, he focused on honing his culinary skills by befriending chefs across the Phoenix Valley, absorbing all the advice and knowledge he could. They explored food trucks, dreamed of taco stands, and considered opening restaurants. In the end, Benny Blanco came knocking, and it was a perfect match.
Hudson sources his ingredients from cities within the 48th state, including Wilcox, Queen Creek, and Cave Creek. Benny Blanco Tortillas operates with a zero-waste policy. Some tortillas are saved to make chips, while all unused products are donated to the Genesis Project, a nonprofit food kitchen that provides hot meals to those in need.
Benny Blanco Tortillas is open every Thursday from 11 a.m. to 6 p.m. at 189 W. Apache Trail and can be found at the Gilbert Farmer’s Market on Saturdays. You can visit the factory during these hours to pick up freshly made tortillas.
