The 7th Annual Latinx New Works Festival in San Diego will take place at La Jolla Playhouse from October 4-6, 2024.
Produced by Dr. Maria Patrice Amon, La Jolla Playhouse’s 2024-2025 Artist-in-Residence, this festival serves as a vibrant platform celebrating Latin stories in American theater. Each of the four selected plays was chosen from over 150 submissions this year, showcasing the diversity of experiences and narratives that reflect the Latinx community today.
The festival will run from Friday, October 4, through Sunday, October 6, at the Rao and Padma Makineni Play Development Center at La Jolla Playhouse. It will feature emerging Latinx playwrights from across the U.S.
Key Highlights of the 7th Annual Latinx New Works Festival
The festival shines a spotlight on Latinx stories and voices, expanding their presence on the American stage and offering a broad representation of contemporary Latin experiences.
This year, over 150 plays were submitted, with four standout scripts selected for workshop development at the Playhouse, culminating in live public readings during the festival in October.
Attendance at the Latinx New Works Festival is free and will feature an engaging lineup of live readings, panel discussions, and additional events.
The four selected plays for this year’s festival are: “Nunca pedí un gofundme” by Jayne Deely, “Madre de Dios” by Ricardo Pérez González, “El hombre en el laberinto” by Oliver Mayer, and “El Puente” by Sandra Ruiz.
The Rao and Padma Makineni Play Development Center is located at 2910 La Jolla Village Drive, La Jolla, California.
