The Film Fest Tucson, Arizona will have a very special participation from the Northwest, as four short films made by women filmmakers from Sonora will be screened during the festival, taking place from October 13 to 15.

Sonoran filmmakers Fernanda Galindo, Victoria Arellano, Amelia Obregón and Jessica Quiroz will bring their four shorts to the screens of Film Fest Tucson on October 15, where they will feature different themes and highlight Sonora in a festival that exhibits the best of the southern Arizona community.

Film Fest Tucson is a film festival with a large turnout from the Southern Arizona community as well as visitors from the region, primarily from Tucson and surrounding areas.

Bajo el agua (Underwater), by Fernanda Galindo

A personal look at Sonora where filmmaker Fernanda Galindo documents her life, childhood, and her relationship with her father; it’s a short film that received the Support Fund for the Production of Fiction and Documentary Short Films of Sonora (Fondo de Apoyo a la Producción de Cortometrajes de Ficción y Documental de Sonora, FAPS) and winner in the eighth edition of the International Film Festival in the Desert.

Lentes rosas (Pink glasses), by Amelia Obregón

The short film is an independent project made by women filmmakers from Sonora that exposes gender violence during courtship, where, in many cases, it becomes a normalized issue.

Manita is a young and lonely hairdresser whose beauty is interrupted by a terrible disease, whose consequences she knows very well.

Lucas, by Jessica Quiroz

In this short film, different testimonies and experiences of women from Sonora about pleasure and sexuality are exposed, through animations, dance and different performances.
