Officially opening its doors in Chula Vista, the restaurant promises an authentic taste of Mexico and a bold claim to serve “the best tacos in the world.

El Pastor Del Rica began in Guadalajara, Mexico, and quickly gained fame for its mouthwatering tacos al pastor and other Mexican staples. Now, Canelo and Ricardo Álvarez are bringing their expertise to the U.S., choosing Chula Vista as the location for their first American taquería. The city’s proximity to the southern border and its vibrant Mexican-American community made it an ideal choice for the Álvarez brothers, who have deep ties to both San Diego and Guadalajara.

What to Expect at El Pastor Del Rica

The taquería has been designed to replicate the charm of a traditional Mexican taco stand. With an eye-catching orange façade and a simple, wood-furnished interior, the space is inviting yet unpretentious. Diners will find a communal taco experience: salsa, lime, onions, cilantro, and other taco essentials are centrally placed for easy access.

One of the restaurant’s highlights is the trompo de pastor, a vertical spit of seasoned pork that takes center stage in the kitchen. Guests can watch as the meat is shaved onto warm corn tortillas, creating the iconic taco al pastor that has made the restaurant famous.

On the walls, framed photos of Canelo Álvarez remind diners of the champion behind this culinary endeavor, blending boxing greatness with the art of taco-making.

With a motto of “From Guadalajara to the world,” the Álvarez brothers aim to bring the vibrant flavors of Mexico to a wider audience. Open daily from 11:00 AM to midnight at 645 Broadway, Chula Vista, California, the taquería is set to become a favorite for locals and visitors alike.
