San Diego is California’s quintessential city for strolling, having fun, and learning, thanks to its wide variety of parks, recreational areas, and museums. That’s why we’re sharing a list of the most attractive and unique museums to visit in San Diego County.

1. The San Diego Museum of Art

The San Diego Museum of Art (SDMA), located in Balboa Park, is renowned for its extensive collection, with a notable emphasis on Spanish art. According to the official Balboa Park website, it stands as “the region’s oldest and largest art museum.” Attracting nearly half a million visitors annually, it remains a cultural cornerstone in San Diego.

You can purchase general admission tickets to The San Diego Museum of Art, which grants you access to the collection galleries. Some exhibitions may require an additional fee. However, if you’re a member, entry is always free. Simply present your membership card at the admission desk for complimentary access.

2. San Diego Model Railroad Musem

This exhibit explores the history of Thomas the Tank Engine, from Wilbert Awdry’s original story to the beloved television series, “Thomas the Tank Engine & Friends.

UPCOMING EXHIBIT: THE TIJUANA AND TECATE RAILROAD
Opening June 11, 2024, SDMRM’s Summer Exhibit delves into the history and construction of the Tijuana and Tecate Railroad, a segment of the San Diego and Arizona Eastern Railroad located across the Mexican border.

3. The Fleet Science Center

4. Museum of Photographic Arts at The San Diego Museum of Art

The Museum of Photographic Arts (MOPA) is a vibrant hub for visual learning, dedicated to sharing and exploring the universal language of photography. “Storyteller: Work by Holly Roberts”

5. The USS Midway Museum
