Vice President and Democratic candidate Kamala Harris has sparked controversy by endorsing a bipartisan immigration plan that includes extending the border wall with Mexico.
With just two months left before the U.S. presidential election, Harris surprised many by aligning with a proposal to build a border wall—a measure strongly advocated by Republican candidate Donald Trump.
Previously opposed to Trump’s hardline stance on border security, Kamala Harris now supports the wall’s construction, citing the need to curb the illegal flow of weapons across the border.
Kamala Harris Accused of Flip-Flopping on Border Wall Stance
Republicans have criticized Democratic presidential candidate Kamala Harris for what they describe as a major reversal on her stance on U.S. border policy. Local media reported on August 27 that Harris, once a vocal opponent of Trump’s border wall, now supports its expansion as part of a broader immigration deal.
Years ago, Harris condemned Trump’s wall, labeling it a “medieval solution” to illegal immigration. However, she now backs an immigration plan that includes extending the controversial wall.
Despite backlash, Harris remains firm in her commitment to border security, emphasizing the need to halt the illegal flow of weapons.
“I served two terms as California’s Attorney General, targeting transnational criminal organizations that violated U.S. laws by smuggling weapons, drugs, and people,” Harris said in an interview with CNN.
Her support for the bipartisan plan—which includes a provision for automatic border closure if the number of undocumented crossings exceeds 5,000 per day—signals the Biden administration’s willingness to take tougher measures on immigration.
The plan allocates $650 million for wall construction, a significant decrease from the $18 billion previously requested by Trump’s administration.
