Pedro Infante was born in Mazatlán, Sinaloa, in the year 1917 and passed away in Mérida, Yucatán, in 1957. He was a Mexican film actor and singer. At a very young age, he moved with his family to Guamúchil, where he acquired some notions of music and was a carpenter’s apprentice in his early years.

Exclusively for the streaming platform ViX, the biographical series ‘Se llamaba Pedro Infante’ has been available since December 1, 2023. The episodes tell the story of an ordinary young man who finds the inspiration to become a legend, the idol of Guamúchil, Sinaloa.

Rubén Galindo, producer of ‘Se llamaba Pedro Infante’, explained that the series aims to explore his intimacy, to go beyond the myth and understand the vulnerable and human side of Pedro Infante, and for this reason, it is based on various sources.

“It would be necessary to write a book about how this project was achieved. It must be enjoyed frame by frame. There were interviews with the family: Toño Infante, Lupita Torrentera, Lupita Infante, and some journalists who participated in investigations,” he commented.

According to the producer of the series, he also consulted sources from texts written by Ismael Rodríguez, Irma Dorantes, María Luisa León, as well as interviews with film personalities who got to know the actor and singer.

“All that information is simply an inspiration, because the series is not based on any specific source. It is an interpretation of all that information, and to be able to compact it, we had to tell a story from our perspective, once informed,” he said.

Synopsis on the ViX platform: “Se llamaba Pedro Infante begins in 1917, in a remote village in Sinaloa where a poor and seemingly hopeless child is born. Pedro Infante, a dreamer, a lover, and always with a broken heart, never gave up on becoming someone exceptional. The promise he made to his mother led him to become the ultimate star of music and the silver screen during the Golden Age of Mexican cinema; his songs and characters became known worldwide, and when he seemingly had it all, he met a tragic end. The series will be an opportunity to discover the true story of Pedro Infante, the Mexican idol that no one has seen before.”

With locations in San Luis Potosí, Hidalgo, and Mexico City, the biographical series is led by Mario Morán (No manches Frida) in his first starring role, portraying Pedro Infante. He is accompanied by Ana Claudia Talancón (Soy tu fan) in the role of María Luisa León.
