Who was Lola Beltrán?

Lucila Beltrán Ruiz, known artistically as Lola Beltrán, was born in El Rosario, Sinaloa, on March 7, 1932. From an early age, she showed her musical talent and passion for singing, discovering her voice in her church choir.

Her career took off when she won a singing contest organized by a radio station while working as a secretary. This achievement led her to sign her first record contract and establish herself as one of the most prominent voices in ranchera music in Mexico.

Lola Beltrán’s musical trajectory

Lola Beltrán became one of the most recognized and beloved female voices of huapango and Sinaloan banda music in her time. Her talent led her to perform incomparably famous songs such as “Cucurrucucú paloma,” “Por un amor,” “Huapango torero,” “La feria de las flores,” and “Paloma negra.”

These songs not only achieved international success but also became classics of the ranchera genre.

In addition to her outstanding musical career, Lola Beltrán ventured into film and television, participating in more than 50 movies, including titles such as “El Tesoro de la Muerte” (1954), “Qué bonito amor” (1960), among others. Her presence on the big and small screens solidified her as a legend in the entertainment world.

A legacy that remains alive

Throughout her artistic career, Lola Beltrán received various awards and distinctions both in Mexico and abroad.

Her invaluable contribution to regional music transcended borders, collaborating with great artists and composers, significantly contributing to the popularization of the genre outside of Mexico.

The Sinaloan singer recorded a total of 100 albums throughout her career, leaving a mark on ranchera music. Her melancholic and sensitive voice, combined with her ability to convey the lyrics of her songs.

Unfortunately, on March 24, 1996, Lola Beltrán passed away at the age of 61 due to complications from a heart disease that seriously affected her health. Despite her departure, her legacy continues to inspire new generations of artists who seek to preserve and enrich the richness of ranchera music.

Google pays tribute to Lola Beltrán

The animated Doodle adorning the main search engine page symbolizes one of her great successes, “Paloma negra,” the most searched song in Mexico since 2004. The illustration is inspired by the characteristic attire of the time that made her shine in every performance.
