Tiempo de lectura: 4min

If there’s one thing Juan Gabriel and Taylor Swift have in common, besides composing songs that resonate with a diverse audience, it’s that when it comes to giving concerts, it doesn’t matter how long they last, as long as the audience enjoys them.

Taylor Swift’s Eras Tour has made a huge impact worldwide. With a duration of just over three hours during which she performs 45 songs, the Eras Tour is one of the longest concerts offered in the world, and it arrived in Mexico in August 2023.

However, there is a Mexican artist who exceeds the duration of Taylor Swift’s Eras Tour by almost double. On May 10, 2015, Juan Gabriel captivated the audience at the National Auditorium in Mexico City with an unprecedented spectacle.

On a night destined to celebrate Mother’s Day, Juan Gabriel delivered a concert that defied all expectations, extending for 6 hours and 15 minutes, leaving everyone present speechless.

Juan Gabriel’s longest concert

The Auditorio Nacional, in Mexico City, the iconic stage where the biggest stars in music have performed, witnessed this historic milestone. Juan Gabriel, also known as “El Divo de Juárez,” far exceeded expectations by surpassing his own personal record of performances.

A pesar de que inicialmente se tenía programado un repertorio de 48 temas, la energía inagotable y el entusiasmo del público llevaron al artista a continuar más allá de lo planeado, ofreciendo un total de más de un centenar de canciones.

Despite the extensive duration of the concert, attendees to this concert assure that the energy and passion of the “Divo of Juarez” never waned, keeping the audience captivated during every moment of the performance.

Among the songs performed, “Amor Eterno” stood out as one of the most acclaimed and emotional of the night, eliciting tears and applause in equal measure.

Special guests and memorable moments

Just like Swift in some Eras Tour performances, Juan Gabriel had special appearances on this occasion that managed to excite the audience.

Juan Gabriel had the special participation of renowned artists, including the Colombian singer-songwriter Juanes, who joined the stage to share this historic moment.

In addition, the audience had the privilege of enjoying collaborations with figures such as David Bisbal, Daniela Romo, Emmanuel, and many others, who joined the show to make it even more unforgettable; undoubtedly, a concert that many would have liked to attend.

The record for the longest concert in Mexico City

Juan Gabriel left an indelible mark that has not been surpassed in the history of music in Mexico by breaking all boundaries in his concert at the National Auditorium on May 10, 2015.

Juan Gabriel captivated the audience with his unparalleled talent for over six continuous hours, thus establishing a record as the longest concert ever held in Mexico.

The most surprising thing about this feat is that neither the musicians nor the venue staff were prepared for the extraordinary duration of the show, adding a touch of spontaneity and magic to this unforgettable event.

The legacy of Juan Gabriel in Latin music

Juan Gabriel’s career was full of achievements and accolades, but this concert adds to an impressive list of milestones in his trajectory. In addition to being one of the most popular and prolific artists in Mexico, Juan Gabriel was also recognized for his talent as a songwriter, with over 1,800 songs that were translated into other languages such as Turkish, German, French, Italian, Tagalog, Japanese, Greek, Portuguese, and English, among others.
