The Mazatlan native had a challenging 2023 season marred by multiple injuries, which hindered his performances and kept his potential from shining through. In 2024, the pitcher resumed his quest to secure a significant role within the Texan organization.

Urquidy is fully recovered from the injuries he suffered last season, even becoming one of the recurring relievers for Houston during the playoffs—a role he could also play before the start of the official Major League activities in 2024.
It will be of utmost importance for him to stay in good shape to achieve his goal
As the start of the season draws nearer, Urquidy declares that he knows his position well and feels strong. He also states that he’s available for whatever manager Joe Espada needs, as they’ve known each other since 2019 and have excellent communication.
Since the mentioned year, José Urquidy has delivered strong performances as a starting pitcher during important games. The experience he has gained over the years has helped him mature professionally, always striving to give his best.
Urquidy is one of the Mexican baseball players who has stood out the most in Major League Baseball.
Hailing from Mazatlan, Sinaloa, he has become one of the most consistent baseball players in MLB. The Mexican has already made a name for himself in American soil thanks to his talent as a pitcher.
Among his statistics, he has made 79 appearances with a record of 27 wins and 16 losses, averaging a 3.98 ERA. He has a total of 405 innings pitched and 326 strikeouts, statistics he aims to improve by continuing to train and take care of his physical condition in order to see a full season this year.
José Urquidy has a very clear goal of reaching 200 innings pitched during a single season, and moreover, he is already very close to reaching a total of 100 games played in the Major Leagues.
At the moment, José isn’t sure if he’ll be part of the Houston Astros’ rotation, as the official announcement of the pitchers who will be part of this lineup will be made in the coming days. Among other names, it’s also expected that Justin Verlander, Framber Valdez, Cristian Javier, and Hunter Brown will be included.
Urquidy reached an agreement with the Houston Astros to avoid salary arbitration, renewing with the team for another year at $3.75 million. Finally, the pitcher will continue his preparation to be ready for the start of activities as part of the main rotation.
