Hirving “Chucky” Lozano is in talks with San Diego FC, a team he would be joining in 2025 when they make their official debut in the MLS in the upcoming American soccer season

Hirving “Chucky” Lozano has become one of the best and most prominent Mexican footballers over the years, being widely recognized in Mexico and around the world as one of the most promising forwards in the sport. He’s a natural goal scorer who has showcased his talent and quality in every match he has played.

His stint in European football, following a successful season in Mexico, saw him play in two of the continent’s most competitive leagues, demonstrating his skill in both and attracting interest from teams eager to have him join their ranks. One of these teams is San Diego FC, an institution preparing to make its debut in the MLS during the 2025 season, with whom the Mexican is reportedly close to signing to play that campaign.

Hirving Lozano is expected to join San Diego during 2025

Pending official confirmation, the forward from Mexico City remains under contract with PSV in the Eredivisie (the football league of the Netherlands) and will stay with them until January 2025. However, it is expected that after this period, San Diego FC will make its official debut in the MLS, with Hirving Lozano becoming part of the history of a team playing its first season in the top tier of American soccer.

San Diego FC is shaping up to be a formidable opponent, with negotiations underway with several renowned players who could join Lozano in forming the squad representing the institution during its inaugural season. Names of other Mexican footballers like Guillermo Ochoa and José Juan Macías are also being mentioned.

Regarding this transfer, various specialized media outlets in the United States report that the new MLS franchise is willing to pay a sum of up to $12 million for Chucky to be part of this new project, thus ending his participation in European football.

Here’s a summary of Hirving Lozano’s journey during his time in Europe

Chucky made his professional debut in 2014 with Pachuca, where he began to develop as a player and attracted the attention of several European institutions. PSV Eindhoven was his first venture in Europe, arriving in Dutch football in 2017, the same year he won his first title and played a total of 79 matches, scoring 40 goals.

He then joined Napoli in the Italian Serie A, where he became league and cup champion in 2019 and 2022 respectively, also competing in Champions League matches. He spent a total of 4 seasons with Napoli, playing 155 matches and scoring 30 goals.

He returned to PSV for the 2023-2024 season, once again being part of the squad that won the Eredivisie title, bringing his total European titles to 4. Thus, Hirving Lozano will continue to defend the colors of PSV until his transfer to this new team in the MLS is finalized.
