In a ceremony led by the director of the Mifel Tennis Open by Telcel Oppo, Geoffrey Fernández, the main draw for the 7th edition of the ATP 250 Los Cabos tournament was conducted.
With great excitement and high expectations, the long-awaited main draw for the Mifel Tennis Open 2023 was held. This sporting event has attracted the attention of tennis enthusiasts and followers from all around the world, who are eager to see their favorite players in action, vying for the coveted title.
More on the topic
The top seeds, with their proven track records and demonstrated skills, are at a crucial moment in the season, with the opportunity to seize victory in this tournament, which could provide a vital boost to their careers. The tension rises as the elite players already know the path they must tread to advance towards glory.
This is how the draw for the Mifel Tennis Open 2023 looks like.
The current world number 5, the talented Stefanos Tsitsipas from Greece, has been designated as the top seed. On the other hand, the 2021 ATP Los Cabos champion and 2022 finalist, Cameron Norrie, is seeded second and currently holds the 13th position in the world rankings.
The draw has created an intriguing situation, as Tsitsipas and Norrie have been placed on opposite sides of the draw, which means they could potentially meet face-to-face in the long-awaited final, provided they both progress in their respective matches. Both of them advanced to the first round and are now awaiting their opponents in the second round.
The same scenario occurred for Tommy Paul, the American who was the third seed and ranked number 14 in the world, who could face the British player in the semifinals. One of the matches that is generating the most excitement is the one between veteran American John Isner and Australian Rinky Hijikata, as the winner will face Tsitsipas in the second round.
Clash of great talents
The fifth seed of the tournament was Alex de Minaur, who currently holds the 17th position in the Association of Tennis Professionals (ATP) rankings. Miñaur aims to achieve a double in Mexico, as he already won the Acapulco tournament.
The talented Mexican athlete, Rodrigo Pacheco, received one of the three wild cards, which provides the opportunity to compete with the big names in tennis in this prestigious event. The draw placed him in the top half, where he will face a formidable challenge on his path to glory. His first opponent will be the experienced Chilean player Nicolás Jarry, who is ranked 29th and also received one of the wild cards.
Ernesto Escobedo, who is also a representative of Mexico, received the third wild card, and he will face the Spanish player Nicolás Moreno de Alborán. The winner of that match will then have to defeat Borna Coric, the fourth seed, in the next round.
The activities of the Mifel Tennis Open by Telcel Oppo have begun
Borna Coric was the special guest during the presentation, and Geoffrey Fernández mentioned that he hopes this will be the first of many visits to the event. He added: “We have a great draw, very competitive with all the Top 20 players. It’s remarkable to see the Mexicans, and for the first time, we have a Mexican player ranked No. 1 in the draw, which is Santiago González. I’m looking forward to the first-round match between Rodri and Jarry. Also, we want to remind everyone that we have new facilities at the venue. We are looking forward to this edition and are grateful to the present media.”
The main draw activities of the Mifel Tennis Open start this Monday, July 31st, at 18:00 hours. Additionally, on Saturday and Sunday, a qualifying tournament takes place, which offers four spots for entry into the main draw.
