The Mazatlán Grand Aquarium, in collaboration with the Mazatlan Astronomical Society and NASA, is poised to provide an unforgettable experience during the upcoming total solar eclipse set to occur on April 8, 2024.

Under the name “From Sea to Space,” this special program pledges to bring astronomy enthusiasts closer to the celestial phenomenon from a privileged setting.

With “From Sea to Space,” the Mazatlán Grand Aquarium positions itself as a meeting point between the sea and space, where science, education, and astronomical observation converge.

This event will be an opportunity to learn and appreciate the wonder of the cosmos. As we await the Great Eclipse of 2024, “From Sea to Space” sets the stage for an unforgettable experience in Mazatlán.

“From Sea to Space” Program

The program, scheduled from April 4th to April 8th, will include an exclusive visit by representatives from NASA and the Mexican Space Agency (AEM) to the aquarium on April 4th.

This gathering will provide participants with the opportunity to interact with experts in the field and explore space advancements alongside one of the most renowned institutions in the world.

April 6th and 7th will be reserved for educational workshops, where the public can delve into the profound knowledge of solar eclipses, guided by the highly qualified staff from NASA and the AEM.

The main experience of “From Sea to Space” will be on April 8th, when the Mazatlán Grand Aquarium becomes the observation point for the 2024 solar eclipse.

The Great Mexican Eclipse

From this strategic vantage point, attendees will be able to enjoy the total phase of the eclipse, which will begin at 9:51 am and extend until 12:32 pm.

This phenomenon, known as the “Great Mexican Eclipse,” will be visible in Mexico, the United States, and Canada, but Mazatlán will enjoy the best weather conditions and the longest total phase, lasting for 4 minutes and 20 seconds.

The duration of the total eclipse in the port, combined with favorable weather conditions, makes it the ideal place to experience this astronomical spectacle.

According to astronomical calculations, in Mazatlán, the eclipse will begin at 9:51:23 am, with the total phase starting at 11:07:25 am and ending at 11:11:45 am. The total duration of the eclipse in Mazatlán will be 4 minutes and 20 seconds, making it the location with the longest total phase duration across the entire continent.

Mazatlán Grand Aquarium: A Refuge for Observers

The Mazatlán Grand Aquarium is gearing up to provide a unique experience not only for eclipse observers but also for marine life enthusiasts. The program will include specific areas for children, educational workshops, and specialized lectures given by astronomy experts.
