Who is Thunder Rosa? The wrestler representing Tijuana on an international level

Her birth name is Melissa Cervantes, and she hails from Tijuana, Baja California, born on July 22, 1986. At 37 years old, she remains one of the active Mexican wrestlers who continues to put on great performances, earning recognition as one of the best in the ring.

She began her wrestling career in a Battle Royal match at Supreme Pro Wrestling in 2014 in Sacramento, California, where she consistently appeared in various fights. She later joined World Wonder Ring Stardom, a Japanese company, where she participated in 2015. By 2016, she was again called upon by the same company and became the Southern California Wrestler of the Year in 2016.

Subsequently, Thunder Rosa spent four years in Lucha Underground, where she was in the ring in the second season as the leader of the Reptile Tribe, Kobra Moon, and left in 2019, combining her participation in this promotion with others in the independent wrestling circuit in the United States.

Starting her ascent as one of the best, Thunder Rosa begins to make a name for herself

Thunder Rosa has always been consistent in Japanese wrestling. After her stint at Stardom, she joined Tokyo Joshi Pro Wrestling where she spent a year and became part of the roster by appearing several times in championship matches against formidable opponents. She was part of one of the biggest events where she even became the International Princess Champion by defeating Maki Itoh, a title she had to relinquish due to travel restrictions amid the COVID-19 pandemic.

Currently, Thunder Rosa is involved in two of the most recognized companies in the United States, starting with NWA, where she won the Women’s World Championship in 2020, becoming the first Mexican to achieve this feat. She held the title for 278 days before losing it to Serena Deeb in a match considered one of the most outstanding in the women’s category.

Thunder Rosa’s golden era and where she has made her name known has been in All Elite Wrestling (AEW), a company she joined in 2020. After several appearances and matches, she was officially signed in July 2021 to work full-time, becoming part of the first main event of Dynamite alongside Britt Baker, in one of the most critically acclaimed matches.

Thunder Rosa became the AEW Women’s World Champion during the special St. Patrick’s Day event against a well-known rival, Baker, both competing inside a steel cage where the Mexican won by a three-count to claim the title. However, she suffered a back injury that kept her out of the ring, forcing her to vacate the championship to undergo recovery. She made her official return just a few months ago, making it clear that she wants to resume her path towards the title she had to relinquish two years ago.
