End of investigation against Julio Urías for alleged domestic violence

Julio Urías was caught on camera pushing a woman against a fence at BMO Stadium, home of LAFC, where venue workers intervened in the conflict; despite this, the Mexican entered a vehicle with the victim where the dispute continued.

Los Angeles County, California, announced that they already have a detailed investigation in the case of the Mexican baseball player Julio César Urías Acosta, who awaited news about his accusation of domestic violence that separated him from the Major League Baseball franchise, the Los Angeles Dodgers.

The agency is the one that must submit this document for review and will determine whether to press charges against Julio Urías for the incidents of last September 3, the day the pitcher was arrested on charges of alleged domestic violence.

Current situation of Julio Urías

It’s important to note that the LA Dodgers pitcher was released after posting a $50,000 bail following his arrest; however, the decision was made to separate the Mexican from the team until further notice.

According to TMZ, the altercation occurred after the game. It was reported that Julio Urías pushed a woman against a fence at BMO Stadium, home of LAFC, where venue workers intervened in the conflict. Despite this, the Mexican entered a vehicle with the victim, where the dispute continued.

Moreover, the pitcher from Culiacán has been placed on administrative leave while all stages of his domestic violence case are concluded. This means that he will not be able to participate in Major League Baseball activities, despite being a member of the Los Angeles team, and therefore, he is indefinitely suspended.

Once the details of the investigation by the Californian authorities are available, it will be necessary for Major League Baseball to also make a decision based on the independent investigations they conduct.

What happened with Julio Urías?

The Mexican pitcher Julio Urías was placed on administrative leave by the Los Angeles Dodgers, as he is under investigation for the crime of bodily injury against his spouse. In the Mexican Baseball League, president Horacio de la Vega commented that the player deserves an opportunity in the future in the competition that takes place in Mexican territory, but it would be inappropriate to give him a space immediately.

“We cannot be precisely accurate, however, we must let the procedures run their course. It’s unfortunate what happened with Julio Urías, I have the pleasure of knowing him, he is a great ballplayer, a great horse. Nevertheless, it would be inappropriate to give him a space immediately for many reasons, but I am sure he deserves an opportunity in the future to be participating in the Mexican Baseball League,” commented Horacio de la Vega, president of the LMB.

It should be noted that Julio Urías is indicated for the second time for a possible domestic violence offense and was placed on administrative leave, according to a statement from the MLB published on September 6, 2023.

“According to an agreement between MLB and MLBPA, Julio Urías has been placed on administrative leave until further notice, while MLB continues its ongoing investigation. The administrative leave, which takes effect immediately, is not disciplinary under the Joint Policy on Domestic Violence, Sexual Assault, and Child Abuse. We will refrain from making further comments until the appropriate time,” reads the statement issued by MLB.

The Mexican Baseball League emerged as a potential option for Julio Urías in case he cannot continue his sports career with the Los Angeles Dodgers, a franchise where he has been for almost seven years. However, the president of the LMB, Horacio de la Vega, considers it not an immediate option, although he does not rule out that it could be possible in the future.
