Carlos Anderson, known as “El Obama,” has taken social media by storm with his unique musical proposal. With nearly half a million followers on TikTok and over 60,000 on Instagram, this content creator has taken an unexpected turn with traditional Christmas songs, adopting them as warlike carols.
El Obama made headlines in the middle of the year after releasing warlike praises, and now he has transformed his genre by adding a northern twist to Christmas carols.
The content creator has already shared his versions of warlike carols, songs that typically evoke peace and joy but now resonate with guitars and rhythms characteristic of warlike corridos and tumbados corridos.
Despite mixed reception among social media users, with opinions ranging from acceptance to criticism for considering them inappropriate for children, the proposal by El Obama and other content creators is gaining ground.
Warlike Carols Attract Internet Users
Comments like “I’ll have to make a warlike outfit for the Baby Jesus” or “I can already picture myself blasting the speakers with such a song in December” reflect the diversity of opinions that these warlike carols evoke.
The tunes that play on TikTok and Instagram are nothing more than revamped versions of traditional Christmas chants, but in the rhythms of artists like Peso Pluma, Natanael Cano, and Luis R. Conriquez, who have influenced a new wave of regional Mexican music. Despite receiving criticism, it has taken them to expose the genre to various corners of the world.
The popularity of El Obama, who was the first to give a different twist to well-known songs with the rhythm of warlike corridos, the “alabanzas bélicas” (warlike praises), has allowed him to share the stage with recognized artists like Edwin Luna and La Trakalosa de Monterrey at the Festival Arre.
In the videos that are quickly going viral, you can see young people, typically men, improvising new tunes with a Christmas theme, adding a “tumbado” touch, which adds a bit of humor and makes it a catchy song.

The warlike trend doesn’t stay confined to digital platforms alone. The 2023 holiday season is filled with surprises with the release of “Posadas Bélicas,” a musical production that reinvents classic Christmas songs by blending them with warlike corrido, northern, and “sierreño tumbado” rhythms.
This project features the participation of genre exponents such as Máximo Grado, Los Buitres de Culiacán, La Autorización, Yerai R, Serebro, Dylan Coronel, among others.
